S tronic is Audi's name for the DSG (Direct Shift Gearbox) dual-clutch automatic transmission. It combines the efficiency of a manual transmission with the comfort of an automatic transmission. It uses two clutches that shift gears without loss of power.
How is S tronic repaired?
S tronic requires specialized repairs, similar to DSG:
- Diagnostics – reading error codes, checking pressure and clutch operation.
- Disassembly and troubleshooting – the clutch kit, mechatronics unit, and gears are inspected.
- Clutch replacement – required when worn, usually after 100,000–150,000 km.
- Mechatronics repair – the control unit often fails electronically or hydraulically.
- Oil change – important oil, should be changed every 60,000 km.
- Adjustment and final inspection – adaptation to the car system and driving test.
Most common problems:
- Hesitation or shaking at low revs
- Rapid clutch wear
- Mechatronics defects
- Oil leaks or overheating
- Incomplete gear shifting
Technical disadvantages:
- Sensitive to frequent city driving
- Expensive and complicated repairs
- Mechatronics is the weakest point
- Regular oil changes and adaptations are required
